Last night I got up from my dream world- shivering and felt my heart beating faster than usual. I was almost ready to run , wake my parents up and scream that "earthquake! daudo..jaldi neeche chalo"....however, much to my relief, it stopped! My heart was still pumping fast, my pulse was pounding, and my body was quivering. I went up to the window to see if anybody has come out of their homes or just wanted to hear any voices that could confirm my belief that there 'really' was an earthquake, but NO. There was nothing. And of course, the belief soon turned out to be a disbelief and I assumed that it was nothing but just something related to my dream. Many times I've had the same feeling earlier also, that of my bed shaking but most of the times, it turns out to be just nothing. 

Anyways, since I was sweaty and thirsty, i did go till the kitchen to catch a glass of water and quench my thirst. 

Now, here comes the real part. Morning- my usual facebook-checking session and the first few posts that I see on my wall are related to the last night's quake only.. A moment's relief (that my assumption can't always be wrong) but then a huge amount of concern for the place where the epicenter would have and more importantly, the people belonging to that area. My next move was to quickly google about it. And oh, for the first time, google or for that matter, our media persons didn't seem to have any idea about it. So, I thought why not I report it myself. 

There was a mild earthquake that was well felt in Chandigarh in the wee hours of morning (around 1 am) on 10th February 2012, that was enough to wake many from their dream world. 

Now as I read it, I got some information from the website- topix.com, that the epicenter was somewhere near Yamnotri, South of Govinda Pashu National Park, Dehradun, Uttaranchal. Since the earthquake is believed to be measuring just 5.1 on the richter scale, no major damage is expected.

Moderate shaking of MMI V will have felt above epicenter. People in Deharadun, Jubbal, Chandigarh and other reacted immediately after the quake. Dehradun is the capital city of the State of Uttarakhand in north India which is located in the Garhwal region, 255 km north of India's capital New Delhi"

Update: Though some houses developed cracks in Barkot area of Uttarkashi, there were no reports of any major damage to life and property in the region which was the epicentre of the devastating 1991 earthquake that left hundreds of people dead.
