  • 2-3 tablespoons ghee or butter (unsalted)
  • 5 Cups milk
  • 1/2 cup rice (washed and kept aside for 10-15 minutes)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4th cup milk powder
  • Few crushed almonds or pista
  • Kewra essence
  • 5-6 strands of Saffron
  • Green cardamom powder (Use 5-6 cardamoms)


Melt the ghee or butter. Add the rice and shallow fry them for about 2-3 minutes. Add the milk. As the milk comes to a boil, simmer. Then keep stirring the milk and rice for about 15 minutes (or till the time, when the mixtures reduces to about half its original size in the pan). After 15 minutes, add milk poweder. Stir. Then add sugar, mix properly by stirring. Then add almonds, pistas (optional), cardamom powder, saffron and kewra essence together. Mix and serve hot or chilled.
