Magh month or Magha masam or Magh mahina is the 11th month in traditional Hindu calendar of India.

Magh Month 2011:

As per North Indian Calendar, Magh month 2012 starts on 9 January 2012 and ends on February 7. (Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Chhatisgarh and Orissa Calendars)

It must be noted that Magh month in calendars followed in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Goa, Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka begins on January 24, 2012 and ends on February 21, 2012.



Magh Snan at Allahabad, (Prayag) is the auspicious ritual in this mahina. Magh Mela is one of the popular Hindu event in Magh month. Magh month is considered to be an auspicious month to perform Shiv Pooja. .

The important Hindu festivals in Magh month are – Mauni Amavasya, Basant Panchami Saraswati Puja (Sri Panchami), Rath Saptami (Radha Saptami / Arogya Saptami / Vidhan Saptami), Bhishmashtami, Bhishma Ekadasi (Jaya Ekadashi), Bhishma Dwadasi, etc. Magh Navratri is observed as Gupt Navratri in many parts of India.
