Purnima, also known as Pooranmashi, Puranmasi, Pournami or Poornima, is the full moon day in a traditional Indian lunar calendar. In October 2013, the date of Purnima is October 18.  This is also the day when many Hindus observe general fast or Satyanaryan fast.

From 5:05 AM on October 18 to 4:29 AM on October 19. The Purnima in October 2013 is the Ashwin Purnima in most regions and is also observed as Sharad Poornima and Kojagari Lakshmi Purnima.

As the Purnima marks the end of Ashwin month in Traditional Indian Calendars followed in North India, so some people also take 'Kartik' (next month) Snan on this day. 
Fasting throughout the day and taking a dip in holy are the main religious practices.
